The FIM X-Trial Championship was held in Geneva, Switzerland, for the first time in 12 years. It was round four of the series, where Repsol Honda Team riders Toni Bou and Gabriel Marcelli went 1-2. Great Britain’s Toby Martyn made it three Montesas on the podium. (The Repsol Honda Team competes on Montesa motorcycles.)
Ton Bou won the Geneva round of the FIM X-Trial World Championship.
Bou started the first lap with some uncharacteristic mistakes that dropped him to second position, fighting with his teammate for the victory. On lap two, Bou took a step up and snatched the top spot, going straight into the final. In that, the reigning World Champion accrued 22 points from the six zones, earning a fourth consecutive victory of the season.
Marcelli led after the first lap. On the second lap, Marcelli remained in the fight for the podium positions, finally placing second and going directly into the final along with Bou and Martyn. After completing the six action zones with 26 penalty points, he finished second.
Gabriel Marcelli made it a Repsol Honda Team 1-2.
“I’m happy with today’s victory, even though my riding was not the best,” Bou said. “We made quite a few mistakes, especially at the end of the second lap, when we had a heavy fall. In the final, I wasn’t completely comfortable due to the knock I took, so now it’s time to recover.”
The Repsol Honda Team riders have a perfect podium record so far in the 2024 season. Bou goes into X-Trial season break as the leader, with 86 points to Marcelli’s 55 points. Just three points back is GasGas factory rider Jaime Busto, who was fourth in Switzerland.
The next event for the X-Trial World Championship will be on October 5th in Andorra la Vella.CN
