California Bill Would Create Sanctioned Event Permits for Competition OHVs

California Senate Bill 708 would create “sanctioned event permits” through the Department of Parks and Recreation
This is a press release from the MIC…
California Senate Bill 708—which would allow California residents to operate competition OHVs at sanctioned events—was passed out of the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee and then passed out of the Assembly Transportation Committee on July 1. Next steps for the legislation are passage by the whole assembly and sending the bill to Governor Gavin Newsom for his signature.
Authored by state Senator Brian Jones, SB-708 would create “sanctioned event permits” through the Department of Parks and Recreation and help staff and law enforcement to quickly identify competition OHVs at these events held on public lands. SB-708 would also restore funds historically designated for important conservation and law enforcement efforts that were lost with the termination of California’s Red Sticker Program.
“Without the passage of California Senate Bill 708 in the state assembly, the use of competition OHVs on public land in the state will be in jeopardy,” said Scott Schloegel, acting MIC President and CEO. “We’re facing this threat because the state’s Red Sticker Program for competition OHVs was terminated by the California Air Resources Board in 2021. We’ve been able to send dozens of letters from across the powersports industry to help advance the senator’s important legislation and keep access open for these popular competition machines.”
